LEAF TYPES

A leaf consist of three parts: the blade, petiole, and stipules (any of these parts may be lacking or highly modified). A leaf with a single blade is a simple leaf. A leaf with more than one blade is a compound leaf. The three most common compound leaf blades are illustrated below (remember to locate the axillary bud to determine if the leaf is compound or simple).
