Valerianaceae                                      Valerian Family

Plants with opposite leaves, no stipules, often odiferous; leaves simple or pinnately divided, sometimes basal; inflorescence a variety of arrangements of cymes; calyx sometimes absent, sometimes developing into an awned or plumose structure in fruit; corolla 5-lobed, more or less irregular, the tube spurred or with a swelling; stamens 1-4; fruit dry and indehiscent.
