Basal
leaves ovate, cordate, faintly 5-7 lobed, serrate-dentate, 5-12 cm long, long
petioled; flowering stem 4-6 dm tall, 3-5 reduced leaves; racemes to 3 dm long;
calyx greenish purple to chocolate-colored; petals brown filiform twice as long
as the calyx lobes; capsule slender, 9-14 mm long; common in rich woods;
adventitious plants grow at the tip of the petiole on many of the leaves.
