Rosa nutkana Presl.                                      Nutka Rose

Shrub 1-2 m tall; prickles few or none, 3-11 mm long, slender, terete, or the larger ones flattened at base; leaflets 5-7, oval, glabrous above, pilose beneath, 1-6 cm long, serrate or doubly serrate; stipules 1-2 cm long, entire; sepals persistent, 1.5-3.5 cm long, 3-6 mm wide at base, constricted in the middle then expanded a little distally; flowers large, usually solitary, petals 1.5-2.0 cm long, rose to pink; hips globose, 9-11 mm in diameter, sepals reflexed, achenes numerous; rocky slopes mostly in wooded areas, lowlands to the lower mountains.
