Creeping and
trailing, evergreen, slender plant, 3-10 dm long, sending up shoots which
produce erect peduncles; leaves obovate to orbicular, crenate above the middle,
a little hairy, 10-25 mm long, pedicels short; peduncles erect, 8-10 cm tall,
leafy below, forked above into two pedicels each producing a single nodding
flower; calyx lobes about 4 mm long, the tubes about 2 mm long; corolla pink,
1-1.5 cm long; very common in our woods. The
genus is named for Linnaeus.
