Cytisus scoparius (L.) Link                       Scotch Broom

Shrub deciduous, to 3 m tall; branches strongly angled; leaves on lower part of branches trifoliate, on upper part simple; flowers usually single, but sometimes 2 or 3, yellowish pods hairy on the margins; has become commonly established.  On a late-summer, hot day, the pods can be hard "crackling" - popping open thus throwing the seeds out from the plant.
