Stems clustered,
unbranched, not at all hispid, whole plant blackening when dried, 1.5-3 dm tall;
leaves lanceolate to ovate, with 1 to 2 spreading, attenuate lobes, sometimes
one or two lowest leaves entire; bracts and calyces rosy red, calyx 18-23 mm
long cleft medianly 1/2 its length, rounded lobes 4-7 mm long; corolla 21-23 mm
long, galea 10-11 mm long with wide purplish - pale margins, lower lip 1-2 mm
long, dark green and rudimentary; alpine meadows in coniferous forest, from Mt.
Rainier to Three Sisters Peaks in Oregon.
