Plant with wiry
hairs (hirsute), several stems 2-4 dm tall; leaves ovate with 2 or 3 pairs of
slender lobes; bracts and calyces scarlet to orange; calyx 20-25 mm long, cleft
medially not quite half way, rounded lateral lobes 4-5 mm long; corolla 20-25 mm
long, galea 12-15 mm long, margins reddish, lower lip dark green, rudimentary,
1-2 mm long; grassy area and open woods at low elevations.
