Anemone occidentalis Wats.                 Mountain Pasque Flower

Stem 3-6 dm tall at maturity; leaves triternate, divisions deeply cleft in to numerous linear sections, basal leaves long - petiolate, involucral sessile; flowers solitary, whitish, 3-6 cm broad; sepals bluish outside; achene villous, reflexed in fruit, each with a slender, elongate, hairy style, together producing a large globose, beautiful head; abundant in mountain meadows, blooming at the edges of the snow banks.
