Plants
strong-scented; stems erect, often tufted, 3-9 dm tall; leaves alternate,
pinnately dissected, 8-20 cm long, basal ones with short petioles; heads small
and numerous, in a flat-topped terminal corymb; invoucre narrow of a few rows of
imbricate bracts; ray flowers 4 or 5, white or pink, 2-4 mm long; disk flowers
10-30; receptacle flat to conic, chaffy; pappus none; achenes compressed, margin
cartiliginous; abundant in open ground. Plants
of this species are variable, for in-stance, some are quite green with only a
small amount of hairiness while others are almost gray due to the many hairs
present.
