Acer circinatum Pursh.                          Vine Maple

Shrub or small tree, 3-10 m high, rarely erect, bark smooth, gray; leaves 6-12 cm long, orbicular, cordate at the base, 7-9 serrate lobes; flowers loosely corymbose; sepals red, petals white shorter than the sepals, filaments long; fruit becoming glabrous, the wings diverging nearly 180 (degrees); leaves turn red in the fall; abundant.
